Appointments & Rates
First Session
Appointments are scheduled according to the needs of the individual and the desired treatment outcome. The first session is a 90-minute consultation for which there is a $360 charge.
Because of the complexity of telemedicine, the initial appointment is 2 hours in length and the charge is $425.
This longer session is necessary in order for a more thorough medical and psychological history to be completed, as well as to allow time for explaining how we might work together. It is imperative that the medical history forms available here be filled out prior to the first appointment so that our time together can be used efficiently. Call 785.841.1243 during regular business hours to schedule an appointment.
Subsequent Sessions
The fee for a sixty-minute session is $220 to $295, depending on the services provided. (Please refer to section below explaining 2019 fees).
For non-emergency questions, you can reach Dr. Laue through the office during regular business hours. Phone conversations requiring more than 10 minutes will be billed at $30 per ten-minute segment. Payment will be due at your next session.
Insurance
Dr. Laue does not take insurance. You will need to pay the entire fee at the time of service. A “super-bill” will be prepared for those who file on their own, or use for tax purposes.
Explanation of 2021 Charges
Appointments are scheduled according to your needs and the desired treatment outcomes. Universal billing codes specify that the amount that can be charged for a session is now within a range rather than a specific number. While this is somewhat confusing, it does allow me to keep my fees as low as possible. Here is how it works:
A technique we use in therapy may be considered to help change your anxiety by changing your biochemistry. However, the insurance companies make a distinction between “medical” and “psychotherapy” office visits. (In my opinion this distinction between the two is somewhat arbitrary, but I do my best to follow the rules that have been set to get your sessions reimbursed by your insurance company). That distinction is one reason for the range of rates.
Another reason for the range is the concept used by the insurance industry called “medical complexity”. This explains why the range of charges can vary so greatly. “Medical Complexity” requires more documentation on the part of the doctor, and as I write all of my notes by hand — in order to safeguard your confidence — this adds extra time to the paperwork load as well.
In order to help you plan your finances and anticipate the charges for your therapy, I have arranged the charges for sessions in the following manner:
If your appointments are once a month or less often the medical complexity will be concentrated into that session and the fee will be $295.
Meeting every third week the fee will be $270.
If we meet every other week, the medical complexity will be less and the fee will be $240.
If we are meeting every week the complexity will be spread out over 4 weeks and will be less at each session- so the fee will be $220.
You will need to consult your own policy to decide what percentage of the charges may be covered by your insurance! Payment is due at the time of appointment.
Phone conversations requiring more than 10 minutes will be billed at $30 per ten-minute segment. Payment will be due at your next session.
